Pappy Van Winkle

Witness X Bliss (Bravo X Hurliman 2061)
Bred by Hoofstock

Pappy is an entirely white, 3/4 Dorset. He is the perfect meld of Witness and Bliss. In limited exhibition as a Dorset Advantage, he was tapped Supreme Champion Breeding Ram on four occasions and never failed to make the backdrop in breed. Following his dam’s lead, Pappy concluded his show career winning at Louisville being selected as the 2017 Grand Champion Dorset Advantage Ram in the Continental Dorset Club’s National Junior Show. His front 1/3 is simply delightful with a beautiful chest plate and elegant shoulder. Pappy walks on timber and is perfect on his feet and legs. Plus, he has plenty of “eye candy” shag. Additionally, we think his flank and underline are unprecedented for his kind. Even so, it’s his hip design that everyone raves about — the length, squareness and pin set makes him unique breeding piece.

Witness

Stones X White Noise
Bred by Enfield Club Lambs

Witness has certainly made his mark on the club lamb industry! When he became available, we didn’t hesitate partnering with Dwayne Hurliman to acquire him from Enfield Club Lambs. This buck has sired Dorset wethers that have won championships on big stages, including the state fairs of Iowa and Oklahoma. Even so, he’s most appreciated for the type of ewes he produces and it would be hard to understate their market demand. In the Dorset ranks, we think he stands alone in his ability to consistently deliver skeletal quality and profile appeal. Even as an aged buck, he’s fluid and graceful on the move keeping his spine check. His lambs are renowned for biddability as well.

Cheap Trick

Freeze Frame X Huntrods
Bred by GT Sheep Co.

Hoofstock Ventures is pleased to have acquired Cheap Trick from GT Sheep Co. He sired the Champion Dorset Ewe, subsequently selected Reserve Supreme Junior Ewe, at the 2015 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. This outstanding female was also chosen as Supreme Champion Ewe at the 2015 Nugget All-American Show and Sale in Reno, NV. Additionally, Cheap Trick made it a clean sweep at San Antonio as he sired the Reserve Champion Dorset Ewe as well. In our flock, he consistently delivered grooved racks, wide loins with good edges and extraordinary shape in the twist. Whether breeding for Dorsets or specks, Cheap Trick does not disappoint!

Minnie

Mudcat X (Boss Hog X FnA)
Bred by Burch

Kolby Burch had this to say about Minnie, Burch Livestock’s entry to the 2015 Midwest Stud Ram Sale, “The best one we’ve ever brought to Sedalia!” We think Minnie soundly embodies Burch’s foundational tenants of quality, function, and power. She is simply a fabulous ewe. Minnie was campaigned last year in California with tremendous success. From there, we’ll let her picture speak for itself. Many thanks to Kolby and Micky for making her available!

Katie

The Chosen One X Ellerbrock 8247 (Leventini X MVP)
Bred by Ellerbrock

It has been a pleasure to partner with Brad and Jeff Ellerbrock on this outstanding ewe. Her dam, Ellerbrock 8247, is one of their lead donor ewes. In fact, a flush daughter was a class winning ewe lamb at the 2013 Midwest Stud Ram Sale going to Dee Brothers. A ¾-sister to that ewe, Katie defines what the Ellerbrock program strives to achieve. Her base width is extraordinary and her rack is explosive. When looking down her top, she is as wedged as they come. The search would arduous to find a ewe with overall handling qualities. Typically, sheep this powerful are coarsely made. With Katie, that’s not the case as she maintains symmetry and is super shallow with a phenomenal chest floor. We couldn’t be more fortunate to have this cute and cocky ewe lamb as a foundational piece of breeding efforts. We appreciate the Ellerbrock’s confidence in us by sending one from the heart of their program to Tennessee!

Sugar

Vanilla Ice X 608
Bred by Nathan

Justin Nathan sold his last three Dorset ewes in the fall of 2013. We couldn’t resist purchasing the best of the lot. According to Justin, this Vanilla Ice daughter is the squarest made Dorset he’s ever owned. Indeed, she’s dead level down her top with a tremendous rack and loin. She’s exceptionally round in her rib shape as well. Her shoulder is one of the nicest we’ve seen on a Dorset and chest floor is clean and tucked. In short, she is on outstanding wether-style Dorset brood ewe. It has been fantastic having her at Hoofstock and we’re grateful Justin made her available!
